I chose this image because I like the focus of the live blossom, the contrast of the dead ones, and I really like the shadows casting by the early evening sun.
I like how the flower (the focal point) is off center instead of being boring and in the middle. The dead flowers, like you say, really provide a nice contrast, and the lighting is nice. My only suggestion would be to avoid the washed out colors on the right side, but then again, it also draws your eye more to the flower anyway. This is overall a nice photo.
